Restoration Project - Trinity Church - Green Hall

Green Hall

University of Rhode Island – Kingston, Rhode Island
Green Hall, a Georgian Revival building which is listed in the National Historic Register as part of the university's historic quad, is recognized as the University of Rhode Island's icon structure. It was built in 1936 by the Works Progress Administration as the main library and executive offices.

During the restoration, every mortar joint of the random split face granite facade was cleaned, ground out, pointed, and sealed. Clinging ivy on brick cornices and window surrounds was removed; in some cases the brick came out with the plant and had to be replaced. Stone masons reconstructed the main exterior stair. Decorative granite veneer boxes flanking the stair that had been damaged by snow removal equipment were repaired. Existing wood windows, with frames pocketed into the cavity of the exterior wall sandwiched between the Westerly Granite and the backup terra-cotta blocks were restored.
